Structural Design & Maximizing Top Load

At Empire Packages, we are always looking out for our customers and trying to offer cost effective and optimum solutions that benefit the end customer..

Paper consists of 50 to 30% air and a network of bonded fibers aligned predominantly along the MD – Machine Direction. For box making applications,  what is paramount it the load that a box can handle in the vertical direction when erect. In order to ensure maximum top load by cartons, the compression predictability of paper in CD (Cross to the Machine Direction)  necessary. 

At Empire Packages, we manufacture most boxes based upon the Top Load Compression (BCT - Box Compression Strength) parameters unless specified by the customer. In order to use the most appropriate paper, we regularly check the compression strength of the paper in cross direction using the SCT (Short-Span Compression Strength) method and RCT (Ring-Crush Compression Test) method.  

Through the appropriate use of paper combinations with predictable SCT values, Empire Packages can design the most optimum and cost effective corrugate solution for your packaging need. Boxes originating from our research labs are purely based upon top load compression and have the ability to maintain the customer's compression requirement even in adverse weather conditions.
